I had laryngitis every winter (or so it seemed) throughout my childhood. I finally overdid NOT taking care of it and ended up with nodes on my vocal chords (like Janis Joplin). That resulted in not speaking for several months and having to endure voice therapy, during which I was told that whispering was equally bad for the chords while in the midst of an episode. I learned on my own about the benefits of licorice root for the chords. (BUT you must research side effects. I, fortunately, do not have any of the conditions that would make it dangerous for me to drink the tea.)
