Pronunciation tip: Sauvignon

You probably know how to say sauvignon, though every so often I hear someone who doesn’t. But do you know why there are two very different wine grape varieties with it in their names (Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc) and why in French plus equals o?

  1. Oh! Is this a thing with wine, that you pronounce the c at the end of Blanc and Franc? (At least I think I’m hearing you pronounce the c?)

  2. My father used to hate it when people mispronounced Riesling as rye-zling. Personally I can’t understand why anyone would bother asking for the stuff anyway but there’s no accounting for taste … 🙂
